Spacecraft and probes launched during this period investigated the following asteroids and comets: 9969 Braille, 3840 Mimistrobell, 433 Eros, 2530 Shipka, Gaspra, Ida, 253 Mathilde, comet Borrelly, comet Giacobini-Zinner, comet Grigg-Skjellerup, comet Halley, comet Hyakutake, comet P/Wild 2, and comet Wirtanen.
